Run and Walk Against Hunger 2008

Back to Events Main Page

Run and Walk Against Hunger, Thanksgiving morning!

Join 3,000 fellow Stocktonians and San Joaquin residents for the annual Run and Walk Against Hunger put on by the Emergency Food Bank on Thanksgiving morning, 8:30 AM. The event, a 5K/3.1 Mile or 10K/6.2 Mile Run and Walk (and, Kid’s 1/4 Mile Run & Walk) is held at the Stockton Ports Ballpark, on the fabulous waterfront in Stockton, our All America City!

Festivities get under way with a 6:00 to 8:20 AM Registration; an 8:00 AM Kid’s (age 9 & under) 1/4 Mile Run; 8:20 AM Opening Ceremonies; 8:30 Run and Walk and 10:45 AM Closing Ceremonies. The event starts and finishes at the Stockton Ports Baseball Park (corner Fremont and Lincoln Streets in downtown Stockton). This is a fun, energetic fund-raiser for the Emergency Food Bank. And, what better way to burn off calories before sitting down to that big family Thanksgiving dinner – alleviate your guilt with a brisk walk or run!

Participants are also urged to bring canned foods, paper and plastic bags:
Bring these donations to the walk, where they will be collected for use by the Emergency Food Bank.

A veiw from above of the race course
Almost 2,500 runners and walkers took off on Fremont Street for this year’s Run and Walk Against Hunger. A crowd of 3,000 is expected in 2009!

Thor and the kids getting ready to set out on their 1/4 mile run
Almost 200 Kids, 9 and under, competed in the ¼ mile dash around the interior of Stockton Ballpark!

The finish line
Finishers cross the line at the Stockton Ports Ballpark – in 2009, finish line is again at the Ports HOMEPLATE inside the stadium!

This year the Stockton Thunder Hockey team is again offering every participant and volunteer a free ticket to a future hockey game in the Stockton Arena; and a host of sponsors will offer other goodies to each participant in the “goodie bags” each entrant will receive.
