Nutrition On The Move“Nutrition on the Move” Program The Emergency Food Bank’s “Nutrition on the Move" Educational Classes
has really expanded in recent years. The programs message is designed to
raise awareness in low-income communities by staging relevant and
important workshops focusing on healthy meals, family food budgeting and
active lifestyles – all designed to sust With high rates of obesity, cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes affecting many Americans, comprehensive supportive services that inform our community about healthy eating with active lifestyles can help raise understanding and possibly prevent future health problems. ![]() The “Nutrition on the Move” classes offer workshops that focus on good nutrition and healthy eating. It also teaches families how to plan healthy, nutritional meals from food that the Food Bank gives out each week. Each class is tailored for the specific target audience and covers nutritional topics relevant to today’s health issues. Workshops include learning the My Pyramid, understanding how to read food labels, food safety and sanitation, and the like. Cooking demonstrations are also given, helping families learn “healthier” ways of cooking to improve eating habits. ![]() Workshops are given at the Food Banks main pantry location as well as community centers, senior centers, satellite pantries, and various agencies throughout San Joaquin County. The goal of the Emergency Food Bank is to increase nutrition education and physical activity to clients who may not have access to these valuable resources. The Emergency Food Bank is committed to providing and organizing a supportive service for clients and their families to broaden their knowledge of healthy, adequate nutrition, the importance of physical activity and to learn healthy cooking alternatives.
